Hello, I'm Tenzin

I look forward to apply my knowledge and skills as a professional Recreational Therapist.

My name is Tenzin Tsomo, I am originally Tibetan and moved to Australia when I was 10 years old. I grew up living on Sydney’s Northern Beaches before moving to the Central Coast in 2025, where I currently live.

I am studying  Bachelor of Health Science majoring in  Recreation Therapy student at Western Sydney University, expected to graduate in 2027. Over years  of studying, which included 720 hours of practical placements, I have learned and observed the benefits that our person-centred,  strength-based practice can deliver.

My experiences growing up in different communities have shaped my appreciation for diversity, inclusion, and the importance of meaningful connections. Through my studies and practical experiences, I have developed a passion for using Recreation Therapy to support wellbeing, social engagement, and quality of life.

As part of my Recreation Therapy work-placement/internship, I am completing 540 placement hours at SummitCare Wallsend, Newcastle. I am also completing 20 hours of professional mentoring with a Clinical Assistant Professor from the Department of Health & Human Performance at Texas State University, gaining valuable insights into international Recreation Therapy practice and professional development.

Additionally, I completed two more professional placements, each lasting 80 hours. The first was in the Adult Mental Health Unit at Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital, where I learned how to provide care to individuals with various kinds of mental health challenges and obtained useful experience in a mental health setting.

Lùz All Abilities, a specialised tailored care and therapeutic centre that provides guidance from early childhood through adulthood, was my second 80-hour placement. I gained invaluable experience assisting individuals with range of abilities at various developmental stages from this placement.
